Wandering around Kawagoe City (Saitama, Japan)

Nestled in the heart of Saitama Prefecture in Japan, lies the charming city of Kawagoe. My recent adventure in this historic area left me captivated by its rich tapestry of culture, delectable cuisine, and warm hospitality. Join me as I recount my journey through the streets of Kawagoe, where every corner unveils a new delight.

To kick off our day of exploration, my friend and I decided to indulge in a rejuvenating experience at the renowned "Kawagoe Onsen Yuyurando." After a night of camping, a dip in the soothing hot springs was just what we needed to invigorate our senses. Priced at a modest 850 yen per person, it was a small price to pay for the revitalization it offered.

With refreshed spirits, we ventured into the city, greeted by a plethora of enticing sights and sounds. Conveniently located coin parking lots dotted the area, offering hassle-free parking options for visitors keen on exploring the city's attractions. Adjacent to one such parking lot, we stumbled upon a modern shopping street adorned with quaint shops and vibrant displays. A particular highlight was a charming paper store where I couldn't resist collecting stamps for my travel journal—a perfect memento of our Kawagoe escapade.

Our journey through Kawagoe's streets led us to discover hidden treasures, including traditional paper shops showcasing exquisite Japanese paper, known as "washi." I got custom stickers for my travel book, adding a personal touch to my souvenirs.

As we meandered towards the old city area, we encountered a friendly local offering a sample of his homemade honey—an unexpected yet delightful treat. Continuing our stroll, we couldn't resist sampling the local delicacies, from Coedo beer, the pride of Kawagoe, to tangy pickled goods like plum garlic, each bite a testament to the region's culinary prowess.

Though I couldn't drink as the designated driver, I found solace in a comforting cup of Matcha and savory dango—a sweet indulgence that left me satiated. Meanwhile, my friend savored the opportunity to sample a variety of sake at a local liquor shop, immersing themselves in the flavors of the region.

Our day culminated in a visit to a cozy hot chocolate spot called cocowa, where we reflected on the memories created during our Kawagoe escapade. As we bid farewell to this enchanting city, I couldn't help but yearn for another opportunity to return and delve deeper into its treasures.

Kawagoe's allure lies not only in its historic charm but also in the warmth of its people and the richness of its culinary offerings. Whether you're a history buff, a food enthusiast, or simply seeking a serene escape, Kawagoe promises an unforgettable journey.
